SINGAPORE, March 23 () -- The Singapore Tourism Board said on Friday it expected a growth of between 2.3 percent and 9.8 percent in its international visitor arrivals this year.It projected that the visitor arrivals to be between 13.5 million and 14.5 million, Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran said at the annual Tourism Industry Conference.Singapore's international tourist arrivals totaled 13.2 million last year, representing a strong year-on-year growth of 13.8 percent.The city state's tourism receipts are projected to be between 23 billion and 24 billion Singapore dollars (between 18.3 billion and 19 billion U.S. dollars), up 8 percent year on year.The tourism industry of Singapore performed well over the past years on the back of the economic rebound and the inauguration of more facilities, including the two casino resorts.Its tourist receipts surged from 12.6 billion Singapore dollars (10 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009 to 22.2 billion Singapore dollars (17.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2011.The tourism board said it wants to focus on growing Singapore's share of the tourism pie by increasing the amount of money visitors spend while in Singapore.The government will pump 640 million Singapore dollars (508 million U.S. dollars) to seed new tourism projects over five years.
