ABIDJAN, May 9 () -- Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck on Wednesday made a stop-over in Abidjan where he held talks with his Cote d'Ivoire counterpart Alassane Ouattara over "worrying" issues in West Africa, according to official sources.Upon his arrival at 9:50 a.m. local time, Goodluck was welcomed at the Abidjan airport by Ouattara.The two men held a tete-a-tete for about 45 minutes at the VIP lounge at the airport before Goodluck's plane left at about 11:00 a. m., heading to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, where he is expected to participate in the economic forum organized by the African Union (AU)."The two presidents discussed worrying issues within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) zone, especially on Mali and Guinea-Bissau," Cote d'Ivoire Foreign Minister Daniel Kablan Duncan said before Goodluck's departure."On Guinea-Bissau particularly, the two presidents agreed to send a joint delegation to the country probably starting tomorrow (Thursday) to hold talks with the junta," Duncan added.He said the delegation will comprise Cote d'Ivoire's foreign minister, Nigeria's ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire and the defense ministers of the two countries.The Cote d'Ivoire president, who is the current ECOWAS chairman, and his Nigerian counterpart are heading a regional working group on Guinea-Bissau, which was created by ECOWAS after the military coup d'etat that happened in the country.ECOWAS termed the coup d'etat as unacceptable and imposed sanctions to force Guinea-Bissau to restore constitutional order.The sub-regional body has also planned the deployment of troops to secure the political transition and reform Guinea-Bissau's security sector."The joint delegation will equally discuss the possibility of the formation of a transition government and the deployment of an ECOWAS force," Duncan said."It is important that this matter is resolved rapidly," he said.After Mali and Guinea-Bissau were hit by a military coup respectively on March 22 and on April 12, ECOWAS held two regional summits and a ministerial meeting between late April and early May. But the juntas in the two member states have rejected the one-year transition proposed by ECOWAS and the planned deployment of troops by the regional bloc.
