"It is a pilgrimage of cyclists."Sticking to the same route as designed for the race, Li bumped twice into the near-150 competing cyclists from across the world. "It has always been exciting to see them," Li said.But Li saw himself different from other spectators cheering along the roadside. "Most people see successes celebrated with champagne, but I feel empathy with these riders' loneliness and perspiration all the way."As Li spoke, one of the competing professional cyclists waved to him and his fellow riders. "It's a greeting that only a rider can understand," Li said.Pan Qi was one of the very few female faces in the pilgrim group cycling around Qinghai Lake, and she was new in this sport. But she toughed out the tour of more than 300 kilometers."But for this trip, I would never have known there is so much beauty out there for me to encounter," said Pan from the city of Changzhou in Jiangsu Province.At the same time, about 100 kilometers away in Xining, capital city of Qinghai and where the cycling race started, cycling club owner Yao Yiyuan is paying homage in his own manner. He is organizing a cycling trip to the suburbs on the coming weekend, for which scores of the more than 1,000 club members have signed up.Five years ago, Yao founded the club after noticing "the Tour of Qinghai Lake is turning cycling into a fashionable lifestyle with great prospects."Currently, club members from all walks of life gather on a weekly basis. They are determined to ride everywhere the Tour of Qinghai Lake has extended, Yao said.Over the last years, an increasing number of Chinese and foreign people have come to ride in the province, in which the Tour of Qinghai Lake has played an important role, said Feng Jianping, the race's chief designer and head of the Qinghai Sports Bureau.To some extent, Qinghai is becoming "Mecca" for more and more Chinese cyclists. SANTIAGO, June 25 () -- Developing relations with China has strategic significance for Chile against the backdrop of the euro zone debt crisis and a sagging U.S. economy, former Chilean president Eduardo Frei has said.Frei made the remarks Sunday while speaking to  ahead of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's official visit to Chile on Monday and Tuesday.Frei, now a senator, headed a Chilean Senate delegation to China in April. Recalling the visit, Frei said the Chinese economy is energetic everywhere, the consumer market is booming and that provides large trade opportunities for Chile.Frei, who was Chilean president from 1994 to 2000, led his country into APEC in the first year of his presidency, which was mocked by many people at that time.But this year, trade volume between Chile and China is expected to reach 35 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for a quarter of Chile's foreign trade.Chile is always a pioneer in advancing economic ties with China among Latin American countries, Frei said.Chile is the first South American state that set up diplomatic ties with China, the first Latin American country to reach bilateral accord with China on China's entry into the WTO, to recognize China's full market economy status and to sign an FTA with China.As for the status quo that copper has become the bulk of China-Chile trade, Frei said chicken, pork, and blueberries have found a larger market in China after checking and quarantine barriers were removed over the last two years. He hopes that more beef and milk products from Chile could be exported to China.Frei believes that ties between Chile and China have become increasingly mature. He said political mutual trust has continued to deepen and the government departments of the two countries have laid out favorable blueprints for companies from both countries to explore further cooperation.He hopes that with the growing trade between the two countries, two-way investment could be promoted and relevant agreements on encouraging and protecting investment could be signed as soon as possible.
